Haworthia retusa
Haworthia retusa
Haworthia retusa have a 'flat-top' look. The leaves have clear windows. They are comfortable being buried in sand, leaves, or whatever, with just the tops of the leaves showing, as long as the soil and climate aren't too moist. In the spring, in full sun and a well-drained soil, they are tolerant of too much water with only occasional bouts of rot in the weaker offshoots.
Haworthia retusa is a very hardy plant. These pictures were taken in south Texas in December. The soil is mostly builders sand with a sprinkling of twigs and weeds, and of course this is their dormant time. They will sometimes have root die-back in the late fall, and I clean and repot my potted Haworthia retusa, but these are just left alone and don't usually get the root die-back. Hmmmm....
